Japanese restaurants are few and far between, especially good ones. Ah So in Islington offers the theatre of teppanyaki - a traditional way of cooking food in front of the customer on a large hot plate - together with boothed areas where you are served in the traditional way. Ah So offers a wide range of dishes encompassing lamb, beef, fish, rice and vegetables which are cooked fresh in front of you and served straight away. The chefs are extremely professional and put on a bit of show while cooking so expect plenty of fire. Much of the food is flavoured with teriyaki sauce - a sweet, soy-like, marinade - possibly too much at times. This is not a cheap way to eat - if you have a mix of dishes, together with sake or wine, you will notch up a fairly hefty bill. Definitely worth a visit for a new experience.
