Not to be confused with the venue of the same name run by Paul Clerehugh in Stoke Row, The Crooked Billet in Honey Hill, Wokingham, is a pub of two halves - some decent pub grub but ridiculous prices to boot.

The pub area has a distinct spit and sawdust feel to it, but walk through to the restaurant area and some effort has been made to create a more upmarket dining area, despite some terribly tacky signs relating to the food on the way through.

The food itself is fine for pub grub, and that’s all it is, albeit done well. Steaks, salmon and pies are in abundance. However, the strange pricing structure leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

During the dinner service, the minimum spend appears to be £15.95 - for one main course (2 courses are £19.95). You can pick any main you want, whether it be a simple sirloin steak, or a posher fillet, but you pay the same price.

This seems ridiculous - surely most people don’t want to have to spend nearly 16 quid for pub grub. Crazy, and off-putting for many, especially as at the time of writing you can get two course in a decent central London restaurant for the same money.

There is a decent-sized beer garden at the back and the hidden away, almost rural location adds some charm to this pub. And if they were to sort out the prices, this would be a perfectly acceptable venue for a pint and a bite to eat.
