The Hope is essentially a grunge/rock bar which draws a mixed clientele of rockers and rich city workers alike. Clearly proud of its musical history, the pub displays several posters from an era when the likes of Madness and The Specials performed at the venue. Apparently Frankie Goes to Hollywood shot their Relax video in the basement.
Prices are reasonable for this part of London. Music is loud; venue is rough and ready, but perfectly friendly. Has pool tables upstairs and often features gigs from up-and-coming bands. The venue is clearly sticking two fingers up to the polished frigidity of trendier bars in the area.
Nearest tube station is Highbury and Islington on the Victoria Line.
