Located on the left bank and near the Latin Quarter, the Marriott Rive Gauche is in a good location for the casual tourist to explore a perhaps less well known area of Paris. But for the fitter readers, the ‘traditional’ destinations are walkable or you can choose to be lazy and take the metro (a station is five minutes walk from the hotel). Everything about the Marriott smacked of quality - apart from the check-in staff. This branch of the chain offers smart, comfortable and clean rooms with all the mod-cons, together with an extensive bar and restaurant area. Check in is not until 3pm and there was a general air of confusion and surliness among the younger members of staff. Also, it’s worth noting this hotel has a contract with an American airline and will always give priority to pilots and cabin crew who are bussed in by the dozen at regular intervals. As a result you could find yourself waiting some time for a room to be available if you arrive early. On the whole though the hotel offers quality at a reasonable rate - at the time of writing a three for two deal was being offered, meaning the room worked out to approximately £80 per night which was very reasonable for the quality and location. Half a star was deducted from our rating because of the poor level of service at check-in.
