The Red Lion pub has undergone several transformations in recent years, but now it has completed a full circle with the return of a Thai restaurant to the rooms above its Market Place location.

The new restaurant is an incongruous mix of old and new, English and Thai. The owners have kept the ancient oak beams exposed and the walls white, while installing a few Thai ornaments here and there to add flavour to its name.

The lighting is perfect for the less photogenic among us, with the dining room relying mainly on candles rather than Halogen beams from above.

The uncluttered feel to the restaurant matches the food, which is fresh and uncomplicated. You’ll find all the traditional Thai favourites on this menu, along with one or two dishes you may not have heard of, all at very reasonable prices.

Fresh ingredients and wonderfully fragrant Thai flavours sums up the food. Convivial surroundings ideal for a wide range of occasions sums up the atmosphere.

And at just under £6 on average per dish Pad Thai becomes an option for a snack without it being a wallet or purse-busting experience.

So far so good.

Pad Thai also offers a takeaway service.

"I agree with Stuart (28th November). I wish I had read that comment before going. The staff were terrible, it really ruined the evening. Will not be going back."
Mike, UK. December 14, 2011

"
Don't go and eat here, this use to be a very good place to eat, it has fallen in standards. The staff were sooo rude and unhelpful, and had an ‘I don't care’ attitude. We ended up walking out."
Stuart, UK. November 28, 2011

"
The food is really nice here and very reasonably priced. The only let down was booking a table for a group of 6 friends, they would not book it unless they had a deposit of £5 a head! Hence we went elsewhere. Also, if you try to book a table when you are there for later in the evening they say they have no tables empty but when you ring the restaurant they have a table free!"
Sally, UK. September 10, 2011

"
The venue is pleasant, the food is consistently nice (if not spectacular) and it's not overpriced. Can't go too far wrong, really."
John, UK.  August  25, 2011

"
Food was average, but the service was the part that really let this place down. Everything seemed to take 2 or 3 asks before the staff did it, from taking our orders to bringing drinks. Even the bill took 10 minutes to arrive! Overall not bad, but wouldn't go back."
Jon, UK.  November 5, 2010

"
This used to be a good place to eat but has gone right downhill lately. The last time we went we had to complain about the food. The manager was there and would not accept any criticism. He actually said not to come back if we didn't like it! And all because we complained the main courses arrived over the space of 5 minutes and were cold. So rude it was unbelievable. We're taking his advice and will not be going back."
Andy, UK.  June 25, 2011

"
Staff was very friendly, but the food was a total let down. The spring rolls suspiciously looked like Iceland's frozen ones, and generally the food was not up to scratch. Very disappointed. The staff are very friendly and obliging though, as I said before, and the place and atmosphere are nice. The price is good, but you get what you pay for. We will not come back."

"
We got takeaway from here and although the starters were quite nice the main courses were not very good at all. I had the thai green curry with chicken and it was very watery, very sweet and lacked that aromatic flavour you get with good thai food. My partner had the red curry and although better than my dish, it still lacked flavour."
Helen, Wokingham, UK.  September 10, 2010

"
Excellent food. Really tastes like it does in Thailand. Good value - especially for takeaways which have a small discount. Wide range of dishes and friendly Thai staff. My favorite restaurant. Ever!"

"
Booked a table for 21 November, which they had entered in error on 22. Apart from the waiter almost laughing at their error, all they offered was to eat in the pub downstairs and knock 10% of the bill! (We ate at the other Thai restaurant in Wokingham). Need to work on their client service..."

"
A great little Thai restaurant with inexpensive tasty dishes and extremely efficient staff. During our visit the place was packed but everything ran very smoothly."
James, Wokingham, UK.  May 27, 2009

"
The green Thai curry with coconut rice is lovely, Their house wine starts at £12.95 with a large choice.
We ordered from the menu and found it cheaper than having the set. Staff are lovely....

I am Thai, all the dish so good and very tasty…i recommend number 36 crispy beef with chillies yummy!"
Je Oli, Wokingham, UK.  December 29, 2008

"Nice little restaurant and extremely friendly staff. However the food was rubbish when we went on 10th December 2008. Every dish was way too salty. Noodles were soggy. The jasmine rice was overcooked so that it went to mush and released water in your mouth. Avoid."
MaccaTheMacc, Wokingham, UK.  December 11, 2008

"
Great food really freshly cooked, very friendly service, good real ale and beer."
Joe, Wokingham, UK.  September 10, 2008

"
Really good food, freshly cooked and full of flavour. The restaurant would benefit from offering a set menu for less than £15 a head. £19 a head is a bit steep."
Vix, Wokingham, UK.  July 16, 2008

"
Great food, friendly staff. I'd thoroughly recommend it."
