Wokingham pubs and bars
The Redan

Address:
24 Peach Street
Wokingham
Berkshire
RG40 1XG
Tel: 0118 989 1177
Rating:

The Redan underwent a major transformation from a rough and ready pub to the smart and well-run bar that it is today.

Staff are extremely friendly and you can guarantee to get a good, well made cocktail, as well as a decent pint or glass of wine.

There’s plenty of comfortable seating and the low lighting with candles on the table is the perfect ambience for any kind of occasion.

Cocktails are £4.50 a go, but worth it, and the clientele is mainly young-ish non-chav professional.

"The review is spot on. A friendly and well-run pub, with a nice atmosphere. It's been spruced up and the clientele is younger, but professional. Visit here!"

I am absolutely furious after spending a night at the Redan - when ordering three vodkas I was casually asked by the barman if I wanted doubles - I accepted. On production of the drinks the barman announced that would be £19. Well I checked this was right then handed over the dosh but on reflection I am outraged that I was asked if I wanted a double as if there may have been some kind of promotion on! I realise I should have checked the price first but this bar's prices are way out of line - and bar staff should NOT be asking people if they want to double their drinks without telling them what the ridiculous price is."

"
This a great bar and totally unique in Wokingham and surrounding layout. Good crowd in here as well. Bar staff are friendly and well above the average. Don't see the boss man Andy around much these days, but it all runs pretty smoothly here. Only criticism - it can take a long time to get served when it's busy and everyone's ordering cocktails."

Have been going to this pub on and off ever since the refurb. The manager runs this pub very well. It was a drug den. The breakfast was awesome (however haven't eaten there since Kim left). If ever we're in Wokingham, we always make a point of going there as the atmosphere & music is great. Unfortunately, the sound system is not so good, however the clientele makes up for any shortcomings as it has a friendly small club atmosphere. We love it!"

If you are looking for rude bar staff, a long wait at the bar, while the manager tries to recreate cocktails but fails badly and over priced drinks then this is the place to go. Otherwise stay clear, there are so many other pubs in Wokingham I wouldn't waste your time in here."

"
Went there for the first time since it was re-vamped to a Cocktail bar. Some of my comments :-
1) Cocktail bar playing loud music? Rock, grunge, hip-hop etc. Not what I would call the right choice. We had to ask them to turn it down (this was 5PM on a Sat aft) as a group of us were having to almost shout across the table)
2) Prices. £5 a pop is not "too bad" but as the afternoon went into the evening, we found that the cocktails (like a White Russian) were served in a small glass when they were originally given in a tall glass. Maybe they are short on glasses?? Not all cocktails suit a tumbler
3) Need more bar staff!! There were 6 of us so we ordered 6 drinks - 1 barman doing all 6 took its toll on the wait.
So, I reckon they need to sort the music out (something more chilled and low volume), get some more glasses and have at least 2 barmen serving. £5 a pop soon adds up and I don't think, at the moment, it's a viable price."
