A fairly dull and non-descript Indian restaurant serving very standard Indian fodder.

Can be a bit dour inside and the staff on occasion are less than welcoming.

One redeeming feature is that some of its tables are in alcoves. Prices are very much standard for this kind of venue.

Cheap and cheerful Indian food from a large menu lacking any individual touches.

Impassive staff don't show much of an interest. Tends to be frequented by "the lads" for a vindaloo and a few pints.

The Royal India doesn't stand out from the numerous other Indian restaurants in Wokingham and is actually somewhat inferior, but it's okay for a meal with a group of buddies.

"I cannot understand the other comments here. I have been going to the Royal India for 2 years now. I know my Indians having been brought up on Indian food by an Indian mother. The decor has been improved recently which has made a big difference and the staff are friendly if you talk to them - most people in Wokingham are rude anyway - the number of times I have been in there and people talk to them impolitely, probably the London mentality there is in Wokingham. As for the food it is by far the best tasting Indian food in Wokingham, hands down. I have been to all the other restaurants a number of times and have to say the Royal India’s food tastes the best. It is fair to say if you want fancy square plates and top spec decor go to the one just down the road from it and sample their bland Bombay potato which tastes like over boiled potato quickly mixed with some spice rack spices - the sort of thing you can recreate in your own kitchen. Try this then go to the Royal India and try theirs, clearly marinated in the spices for a long time and cooked together properly - if you've got any taste buds at all you should realise how much better the food tastes. Most of the other Indian restaurants will serve you up something like a microwave meal, particularly the one just down the road from it which barley passes for Indian cuisine (the plates are nice though and the dishes with all the dips in are nice as well)."

"
A very mediocre restaurant with bland decor, miserable staff and extremely sloppy, uninspiring Indian food. The restaurant should be inspected by the health authorities. Two of us ate at this restaurant and we were both very sick within 4 hours of leaving. Really ill. The food must be re-heated or something but I haven't been so ill for ages because of bad food. Avoid the place; there are much better Indian restaurants around."

"
I have to rate the Royal Indian as consistently ok. You will not get the best food or service here but it is pleasantly consistent and good value for money."

"
Soggy popadums should have alerted us to the impending 'mush' that we were served."
