"Lovely lunch, great service, great fixed price lunch, very reasonable."
Wendy, UK.  February 3, 2010.

"Amazing food and attentive but not overwhelming service. The vegetables were fantastic (and you can always judge a restaurant by how well it does its veggies!). Can't fault it, but it is a bit pricey."
Maria, UK.  November 6, 2009.

"I agree that this is probably the best restaurant in Wokingham. Expensive, yes, but reassuringly so, as the food, service and wine are all of an excellent standard. As one of the other reviewers has pointed out, the lunchtime menu is definitely recommended and is a reasonable option for any first-time customers who want to see what all the fuss is about. The selection of grappa offers an authentic choice for a nightcap, although choose carefully, otherwise it could cost you dearly!"
Charlie, UK.  October 14, 2009.

"Possibly the best restaurant in the area. Food, wines and service of a top quality although you have to pay for it. Book in advance to get a seat."
Paul G, UK.  May 4, 2009.

"Everyone has commented on the prices - why not go at lunchtime? A 2 course set lunch is only £16 - the last time I went even with 3 glasses of wine, water, and coffees the bill was less than £50. If you're going for a special occasion make sure and ask about the best wines - the Tignanello is great but too young to be the best, apparently:-)"

"
Perfect for a special occasion. Superb food and charming service.  Easily Wokingham's best restaurant."
Lorraine, UK.  November 4, 2008

"
Best Italian restaurant in town (and that's saying something in Wokingham which is blighted with so many poor Italian restaurants!).  Serves very good food and wine - it's a little expensive but well worth it."
Ian from Wokingham, UK.  September 12, 2008

"I had an anniversary meal with my girlfriend here recently and absolutely loved it, even though we spent a fortune. Our waitor was a wisend old Italian man who new exactly what he was doing and which wines to recommend. The place had a really good atmosphere and the food was excellent. All in all a good experience although the meal for two tipped the £150 mark."
Josh from Wokingham, UK.  October 20, 2007

Wokingham may appear to be restaurant rich but scratch beneath the surface and you'll soon realise your culinary options are pretty limited, unless you want curry or a pizza.

However, there's a ray of epicurean light in Rose Street in the form of Ruchetta - a family run Italian restaurant which is streets ahead of anything else in Wokingham when it comes to the quality of food and the imaginative yet rustic Italian menu.

Things were looking good as soon as we stepped through the door when we were given a warm welcome by a very professional waiter, maybe in his fifties, who clearly took pride in his job.

Once seated, olives, a delicious tapenade together with bread, breadsticks and butter got our taste buds stimulated while we made our selection.

On the day of our visit Ruchetta was running a special truffle menu so we ordered our starters from here. These were a king prawn risotto, and wild mushrooms with pancetta and a boiled egg. Both dishes were topped with truffle shavings. The risotto was a little al dente for my companion's tastes, and the portion was huge for a starter, but there were a lot of interesting flavours going on. The mushroom dish was excellent - full of rich goodness and reminiscent of a hearty breakfast.

For mains we ordered Dover sole with crayfish in a rich, butter sauce packed with herbs, and a mille feuille of steak with pancetta and a dark, rich jus. The fish was truly exceptional - delicate, perfectly cooked and full of flavour, without being overpowered by the sauce. The steak was expertly cooked and delivered on many levels.

We chose a bottle of Ciro Librandi to accompany the meal - a smooth red with subtle, pleasing flavours which lingered on your palette.

The meal was not cheap - approaching £100 for two without pudding, but it was well worth it, particularly given the extremely limited choice of restaurants in Wokingham and its surrounds.

It would be fair to say, and this is not said lightly, that some of the dishes are approaching Michelin star standard, the Dover sole in particular. Ruchetta needs a few tweaks here and there in terms of presentation and general decor, but it truly is a place worth travelling out of your way to visit.
