Oak-panelled walls and friezes in the Grand Divan dining room give Simpsons a time-gone-by feel to its quintessentially English dining room. Food is very traditional English - roast beef, steak and kidney pie etc. Lunchtime clientele is predominantly business - all smart dress and suits. Staff spoke very little English and could not understand when we tried to explain that our oysters were frozen in the middle - you want six more the waiter kept on saying. We gave up in the end. Overall had a bit of an amateurish feel to it considering its pedigree. Price guide - six oysters £13 - £16, roast beef and trimmings (carved at your table) £23.50. Food was good, but did not in any way justify the price. Service was amateurish. Dress code is smart, with no jeans, trainers or t-shirts allowed.
