The Tamarind Tree
(Indian)
Address:
54 Peach Street
Wokingham
Berkshire
RG40 1XQ
Tel: 0118 989 0600
Rating:
This Indian restaurant nearly got and extra half star on its rating, purely for its originality.
Yes, it is an Indian restaurant, but it has really tried to break the mould with both its decor and food. Inside is minimalist and reminiscent of a slightly up-market French restaurant.
Although the food is fundamentally Indian, each dish is generally lighter and just that little bit more flavoursome than your traditional Indian fodder. The pickle tray is also a pleasant suprise with a few alternative poppadum dips to tickle your taste buds.
Staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the place is, without fail, busy so booking is definately advisable. Good Indian food with a little bit of finesse.

"A very good Indian, the staff are attentive the prices are reasonable and the food is lovely. The best Indian in the area certainly."

"I have been a few times here usually for the Sunday Buffet as it runs all day so we can come at 5pm with our young children for an early dinner. The buffet has a lovely selection of dishes, the children love eating here. Really nice poppadums and pickle tray with ground coconut and sauces which my 2 year old and 5 year old love. Food always fresh and topped up when needed. Always a pleasant experience for us. The decor is very modern and stylish. "

"This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Wokingham. The food is usually excellent & they will make it to your preference. If it isn't, up to scratch, simply complain. They will take it away without argument & replace it and make amends. Sometimes they will bring several for you to try so that they can perfect the dish that evening. Extremely friendly staff, great atmosphere. Make sure you book though. Their pickles are awesome!!
Always a good experience eating in, however I don't rate their takeaway."

"Light and tasty Indian food. You don't go away with a raging thirst and a feeling that all that oil is going to come back and haunt you. My favourite Indian restaurant in Wokingham."

"Been here twice and has been very good both times. Food is a notch above other Indian restaurants in the area and the style and service is very good."

"If this is the best Wokingham has to offer I’m worried. Tough meat and cold curries was my experience. I enjoyed the poppadums and pickle tray, that’s about it!"

"Probably the best Indian in the area. The food is of a high standard and the menu offers a variation to standard Indian cuisine. Will need to book to get in."

"The Tamarind Tree served me a Chicken Buna with raw chicken in it. Not just pink but raw. They were very apologetic, as you would expect.
I thought I would give them a second chance. Unfortunately, still clearly confused about how to cook chicken they served me tandoori chicken with a raw chicken surprise inside....yum!
I won't be going there again and certainly can't recommend the restaurant to anyone else."

"This Indian restaurant is fabulous, the decor is modern and the service is always friendly and professional. The food is always of a very high standard particularly the Sunday buffet which is extremely popular and well priced. I am a regular customer and will continue to pick this venue over all others in Wokingham."

"Being a local business we take a lot of customer our for dinner and I have found the Tamarind tree a refereshing change from the usual Indian food. The service was friendly and efficient and priced reasonably. We will be using for this as a regular venue for our customers going forward."

"I thought this restaurant added something completely different in terms of Indian cuisine. Not you usual beer swilling clientele but a more softer approach to currys. I would give it the thumbs up from me."
