Wokingham's original Thai restaurant. Well-cooked - if not fairly standard - Thai food in an authentic setting; the restaurant is constructed from teak shipped over from Thailand.

The staff are very friendly - in a pseudo-authentic Thai way - and fortunately the menu has been slimmed down from its previous gargantuan tome.

Could be a top (for the town) venue to go for Thai food but suffers from a lack of atmosphere caused by too few customers filling the seats.

Part of the reason for this is the cost - way to expensive for what it is and likely to deter many 'drop in for a quick bite' customers.

Needs to knock several quid off each main course. To sum up good 'fast' Thai food and service, way too expensive for what it is.

Not sure what happened here - change of ownership? - but the Teak House used to be really good and now it isn't.

The previous menu, with its handsome binding and adorably quirky dish names (‘Witches'  Woe’, ‘Sunny Morning’) was sent down in favour of generic Chinese-alike dishes, and the quality of food went down with it.

Chewy prawn crackers might have sat there for days, and everything else was lukewarm and miserable. Charming decor, of course, but that doesn't make a restaurant.

"We are relatively new to the area (2 years now) and have visited the Teak House on several occasions as we love Thai Food. I would recommend this as a place to eat and dine to anyone. The service, food and ambiance of the restaurant seem well above the norm to us. We have tried other eateries in the area but keep coming back here!"

"
Very bland food, although it was busy I don’t see how or why! I’d go elsewhere."

"
I have been using this restaurant for over 7 years now. Went through a rough patch several years ago but that was due to the change in staff/chef. But now under new management it is back to its original quality. I work for a local IT Training company and we use the Teak House for one of our lunch time venues. We also use other local restaurants. On the last day of the courses I let the delegate choose which restaurant they would like to go back to. 9 times out of 10 they choose the Teak House. This place has excellent quality food/ingredients that is MSG free. Fantastic decor and a very special place to visit. This place is worth every penny."

"
I visited the Teak House for my anniversary. My wife and I both chose to eat from one of their Christmas set menus. We received 3 starters (2 pieces of each item), 3 mains to share and 1 portion of rice each. Each item tasted beautiful and was nicely presented. The dessert surprised me the most. Most restaurants of this nature serve pretty boring desserts, this one served a beautiful chocolate coated ice cream that was very well presented, so, it didn't look like the normal dessert that I would have expected. The service was informative and friendly. Since we don't like alcohol they included our cokes into the price of the set menu which thus costed £35 for the pair of us. Good value, excellent food and fantastic service."

"
We had a most enjoyable meal at The Teak House as we have had several times in the past. Lovely decor and friendly staff add to the atmosphere whether at the quieter times during the week or at the busier weekends. Try and book the sunken tables upstairs at the weekend if you want something different."

"After arriving, we quickly discover that it's under new management. Unfortunately, I'd have to say it's not for the better.
Service has gone down hill.  We both ordered the fish cakes, and were both left with the distinct taste that they were frozen rather than fresh.
Getting our main course then proved problematic. After chasing the staff about our main course my wife’s noodle side dish arrived and my duck dish (no rice for me or curry for my wife yet). We then had to actually send the noodle dish back as it was prawn and not the vegetable one we'd ordered. This was then replaced but still no sign of the missing dishes. After a further chase of these, they arrived but just as we are about to start, we find a large black hair
in the curry.
And so at this point, we walked out. Personally, I would not recommend the Teak House (at least with the current management/chef) to anyone."

"I've read the comments hear with interest and agree the Teak House can be over priced, but their lunch time menu is a real bargain. Just under a tenner for a good choice of dishes with quick service makes it a good choice for a lunchtime bite. If they could transfer this to the evening it would be a real winner."

"I went to the Teak House with three friends and found the food enjoyable but really nothing special and did not justify the price. The restaurant is fine but there needs to more competition to raise its standards."

"Nice place and friendly staff but food was nothing special. Could have a good following but too pricey."
Angela from Bracknell, UK.  September 28, 2007

"We had a really good meal at the teak house and disagree with it not being value for money. Four of us sat down and had plenty of food, beers and a bottle of wine and only spent £110. The food was lovely and the place was really lively."
Chris from Sandhurst, UK.  September 19, 2007

"Food was very good and the house wine went well with the meal, but the bill was a bit of a shocker for what was very much standard Thai food in a standard setting."
