Wokingham pubs and bars
The Three Frogs

Address:
222 London Road
Wokingham
Berkshire
RG40 1SW
Tel: 0118 978 5925
Rating:

(Review date: February 2009)

The Three Frogs has completely transformed its image since having a major refurbishment in 2008.

Where there was once a dreary pub serving plates of grease and stodge, there is now a welcoming bar full of booths and nooks and crannies.

While the food is inherently basic pub fodder, it has a modern feel to it and the manager is inventive with his descriptions.

The American president Barack Obama once enjoyed a drink at the pub as part of a stag do he attended in Wokingham some years ago.

To this end, you can now by an Obama burger, although we’re not quite sure what, if anything, sets it apart from the other burgers on the menu.

This is a well run pub, with plenty of seating, including a conservatory area and a large garden. It is a fair way out of town by foot, but an enjoyable walk with a refreshing pint at the end of it during the summer months.

"Just read the previous reviews left for the Three Frogs, and felt the need to comment. We have been regular customers at the Three Frogs for the last year and a half, and love the place. The staff and management are always friendly and welcoming. The food is almost always excellent, and on the odd occasion where it has not been quite right, the staff have always been most helpful in resolving the issue. The gentleman commenting about his hair and gammon was either very unlucky, or born to whinge! We will continue to visit the Three Frogs."

"
In the past we have been regular visitors to this pub and the food and service has been good. However a month ago we showed the waitress a long hair found in one of our meals. Deciding to give them a second chance and went again last night (13 August). One of our meals, the gammon, was badly burnt on one side and the chips looked liked they had been hanging around for a week. We told the waitress who refunded the cost of this meal but it spoilt our evening. The waitress service is good but we will not be going again."

"
Called in for lunch on the way through to Wokingham and was very pleased with the food on offer. Two large gammon steaks with chips for £9.95 beautifully cooked was a bargain. The staff were efficient and friendly which added to a very pleasant lunch. Will definitely call again when in the area."

"
This pub used to do an excellent carvery until Hungry Horse took it over. The landlord from the Raglan took it over & now it's got a lovely atmosphere. The decor is hugely pleasant. Long tables are in huge demand. Haven't eaten there but always made welcome, the beer is excellent & lager nicely cool and possibly the hardest pub quiz I've ever taken part in. Wish I lived nearer as it's a great place now."

"
This pub has been transformed, by new manager Paul, from a 'greasy spoon' type eating place to a pleasant local pub with an excellent atmosphere. The food is mainly 'pub food' but it is plentiful, well cooked and good value for money. In fact the Three Frogs has become so popular I would advise booking a table beforehand."

"
Food is great here, manager Paul is great and most of the
staff are professional. Always make you feel welcome."
