Farmers' markets
Wokingham Farmers' Market

Wokingham’s farmers’ market is held on the first Thursday of every month from 9am until 2pm, although is can drift on a little past this.
There is some good produce on offer – look out for Wysipig pork and Marstons fish in particular, but there is a lot of tat. For example, there is often a large stall run by Eastern Europeans selling a wide variety of toxic looking sweets – avoid like the plague and do not feed this garbage to your children. There’s an olive stall but unfortunately little thought seems to have gone into the flavourings – apart from, ‘what can we chuck in with the olives next’.
A farmers’ market should be about locally produced fresh food with provenance – at the moment, Wokingham’s market consists of about three good stalls and any other rubbish to fill the space. As school reports used to state before political correctness eradicated any allowance of criticism, “must try harder”.
